Born Dafur, Minn,. Dec. 1, 1916; died 1982. Stoutenburg was a professional writer of children's books, as well as a poet and historical novelist. Her work appears under her own name, as well as under various pseudonymns, including Lace Kendall. She first began to write poetry at the University of California, Berkeley, under the direction of Laurence Hart, and it was for this reason that she chose to deposit her poetry manuscripts and related correspondence in the Library of the University of California at Berkeley.
